Careshield Life Supplement Overview

Careshield supplement in Singapore provide enhanced financial protection for individuals facing severe disability by offering higher monthly payouts, lump sum benefits, and lower eligibility thresholds for claims (e.g. inability to do 2 out of 6 ADL) . Key benefits include increased monthly payouts, initial lump sum payments upon claim approval, premium waivers upon disability, and additional support such as caregiver relief, dependent benefits, and rehabilitation support. Premiums can be partially paid using MediSave, up to an annual limit of $600. These supplements enhance the basic Careshield Life coverage, ensuring greater financial security in case of long-term disability.

Lower Claim Threshold

Coverage for Careshield life and Careshield supplement are defined base on the inability to do Activities of daily living e.g. Washing, Feeding, Toileting, Dressing, Mobility & Transferability. The criteria to claim can be the inability to do 1 or 2 out of these 6 ADLs

Medisave Payable

Applicants will be able to utilise up to $600 per year of additional withdrawal limit from your medisave to fund this upgrade. This limit is in addition to the medisave withdrawal limit for integrated shield hospitalisation plans.

Higher Payout

You can and opt for a higher payout of up to $5,000 per month for life exceeding the prevailing CareShield Life payout of $662 per month (as of 2025). Plus, using only your MediSave may significantly increase your sum assured

Information about Careshield life and your eligibility

Singaporean/PR Born in 1980 or later

Automatically covered once you turn 30
You’re automatically covered once you turn 30, or from 1 October 2020, whichever is later, regardless of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability. 

If you were born in 1990 or later, CPF will write to you with more information about two months before your 30th birthday.

Singaporean/PR Born in 1979 or earlier

Optional participation
Your participation in CareShield Life is optional. 
 
If you were born between 1970 and 1979, insured under ElderShield 400, and have not developed severe disability, you had been automatically enrolled into CareShield Life from 1 December 2021. No action is required if you wish to join CareShield Life.
 
If you were not automatically enrolled and wish to join CareShield Life, you may go to Careshield Life e-Service > Select “Application to join CareShield Life” and login with your Singpass to apply and enjoy a 60-day free-look period.
